Protecting Yourself in the Livestock Industry: Q Fever Risk Management

Q Fever Risk Management in Livestock Industry Campaign Overview:

Q Fever is a contagious disease with the potential for severe acute and chronic illness, commonly associated with animal exposure (zoonotic) in Australia. Queensland reports the highest incidence, averaging 222 notifications annually from 2016 to 2020. Given the potential for undiagnosed cases with mild to moderate symptoms, the actual prevalence may be higher than reported.

Campaign Focus:

WorCover Queensland's campaign concentrates on raising awareness within the sector regarding Q Fever risks. The primary objectives include enhancing industry practices related to Q Fever controls and fostering compliance with the obligations outlined in the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

Targeted Sectors:

The campaign addresses various stakeholders in the livestock supply chain, encompassing:

  • Beef, sheep, and goat producers
  • Livestock transport operators
  • Saleyard owners and operators
