Meat Processing Awareness Campaign Workplace Health and Safety Queensland
(WHSQ) is currently implementing an awareness and enforcement campaign in the meat processing industry (excluding poultry). The initiative covers assessments of abattoirs, including red meat, pork, game meat, and pet food establishments, as well as large to medium wholesale/butchers and cured meat and (large) small goods workplaces.
Safety in Sawmilling Industry
Conducted from March to October 2018, the Safety in Sawmilling campaign by WHSQ involved advisory services and compliance assessments at Queensland log sawmilling workplaces.
Fixed Plant Assessments
Between April 2017 and July 2018, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland conducted fixed plant assessments in Queensland's food processing, metal, and fabricated metal manufacturing workplaces.
Queensland Poultry Processing and Labour Hire Compliance
In 2018 and 2019, WHSQ, in collaboration with WorkCover Queensland and Industrial Relations (Labour Hire Licensing), performed compliance assessments across the Queensland poultry processing industry, including labor hire companies providing services to poultry processing workplaces.
Onsite Traffic Management Safety
In 2020, WHSQ addressed the crucial safety issue of On-site Traffic Management (OSTM) across various industries. The campaign specifically targeted high-risk workplaces where mobile plant operations, such as forklifts and motor vehicles, pose risks to pedestrians.
Preventing Eye and Hand Injuries
Identified as the leading causes of non-fatal injuries in the manufacturing sector, eye and hand injuries, including cuts and lacerations to the hands (13%) and foreign bodies in the eyes (9%), were the focus of a 2015 campaign. Approximately 200 manufacturing workplaces in Queensland were visited during this initiative to enhance safety measures.
Q Fever Risk Management in Livestock Industry
The Q Fever Risk Management campaign aims to raise awareness about Q fever risks, improve industry practices, and enhance compliance with duties under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 across the livestock sector.
