Empower Yourself with Work Health and Wellbeing Knowledge

A comprehensive guide titled "Blueprint for Mental Health and Wellbeing," aimed at promoting best practices in mental health within the resources sector, has been introduced. The blueprint serves as a valuable resource for the entire sector and individual workplaces, offering guidance on promoting mental health, preventing mental ill-health, building capacity and culture to address mental health effectively, and responding promptly to minimize the impact on employees and their families. Released by the Queensland Resources Council (QRC) during Mental Health Week, the blueprint outlines key directions and evidence-based strategies for the resources sector in Queensland.

According to QRC Chief Executive Michael Roche, the blueprint emphasizes the industry's commitment to workforce well-being and provides a framework to reduce the risks and impacts of mental illness. Recognizing the challenges associated with workers experiencing extended absences from home, the blueprint outlines goals and strategies for health promotion, mental health problem prevention, and effective response measures, acknowledging the importance of supporting workers in remote environments and their families.

The QRC acknowledges the ongoing need to elevate mental health services and programs in response to the growing incidence of mental ill-health in both the broader community and the resources sector. The blueprint represents a crucial step forward, building on research findings that advocate for a broad, multi-faceted approach within an industry framework for long-term effectiveness and positive returns on investment.
