Your Responsibilities When Selling Electrical Equipment

When dealing with the sale of specific second-hand electrical equipment, WorCover Queensland emphasizes the importance of providing clear instructions for safe usage.

Safe Usage Instructions:

Sellers of second-hand electrical equipment falling within the scope must ensure that each sale includes information on its electrically safe usage. In contrast to new equipment, second-hand goods often lack manufacturer's instructions. Sellers are encouraged to visit the manufacturer's website to obtain a copy of these instructions. In cases where original instructions cannot be obtained, sellers must provide essential electrical safety advice, covering:

  • Safe operating instructions.
  • Care and maintenance guidelines necessary for ensuring electrical safety.
  • Any specific safety instructions pertinent to the equipment.

Electrical Safety Advice:

While sellers of second-hand electrical equipment are not obligated to conduct testing before selling, they must inform the buyer if testing has not been performed. As an alternative, sellers have the option to arrange testing by a licensed electrical worker and share the test information with the buyer.

If the buyer operates a business involved in repairing or reconditioning second-hand electrical equipment, the seller is exempted from testing requirements or the obligation to disclose that testing has not taken place.
