Security of a Workplace During Construction

The requirements for ensuring the security of a workplace during construction work are outlined in Section 298 of the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011.

As individuals responsible for conducting business or undertaking (PCBUs), it is our responsibility to assess the potential risks associated with unauthorized access and determine an appropriate level of security. When evaluating these risks, we must consider the health and safety implications linked to unauthorized entry, the likelihood of such incidents occurring (taking into account factors like the proximity of the workplace to places frequented by children, such as schools, parks, and shopping precincts), and the feasibility of preventing unauthorized access.

To manage the risk of unauthorized access during construction work, implementing temporary fencing around construction sites is just one of the various approaches we, as PCBUs, can adopt. This ensures a proactive strategy to address security concerns and minimize potential hazards within the workplace.
