Understanding the Hazards of Tilt-Up and Pre-Cast Construction

Tilt-up and Pre-cast Construction

Engaged in tilt-up and pre-cast construction, workers at WorkCover Queensland are involved in various tasks such as panel casting, lifting, rigging systems, and propping and securing panels. This construction method is increasingly prevalent, presenting our workers with notable risks that need careful attention.

As workers, we face significant dangers, including the potential for falls from height, the risk of objects, particularly concrete panels, falling, and hazards related to mobile plant usage, such as cranes and elevating work platforms. These risks underscore the importance of thorough safety measures and vigilant practices in our daily activities within the tilt-up and pre-cast construction environment.

Legislation

The Tilt-up and Pre-cast Construction Code of Practice 2003 (PDF, 0.96 MB)  provides guidance on managing the associated risks.
