High Risk Work: Your License, Your Safety

WorkCover Queensland emphasizes the necessity for workers engaged in specific high-risk work categories to obtain the corresponding licenses.

Individuals involved in high-risk work activities, including tasks like forklift operation, are obligated to possess a valid high-risk work licence.

Employers, under the jurisdiction of WorkCover Queensland, are prohibited from assigning high-risk work tasks requiring a licence to workers unless the workers either possess the relevant licence or can provide written evidence confirming their possession of the requisite high-risk work licence.

High-risk work encompasses various activities, such as crane and hoist operation, rigging and dogging, scaffolding, and pressure equipment handling.

To secure a high-risk work licence, individuals can submit an application, keeping in mind the renewal requirement every five years. It's essential to note that the previous necessity for earthmoving and specific crane certificates no longer applies, although operators must still demonstrate their competency in safely operating the respective equipment.
