For Training and Supervision Guidelines: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Concrete Pumping Workers
Essential PPE: Concrete pumping tasks require the use of the following essential PPE:
- Safety helmets
- Eye protection
- Safety vests
- Rubber safety boots
Additional PPE Considerations:Depending on specific circumstances, the following additional PPE may also be necessary:
- Hearing protection
- Gloves
While PPE is considered the least effective method for risk control in concrete pumping, it often remains the most practical choice in various situations.
Essential Equipment for Each Pump Unit: Every pump unit should be outfitted with the following essential equipment:
- First aid kit (must include eye wash)
- Protective creams
- Fire extinguishers
- Adequate reflective traffic cones (minimum 450mm high)
- Signs indicating exclusion zones and the use of high-visibility vests

Training Requirements: Employers or those conducting a business must provide comprehensive training covering:
- Work methods for setting up and safely operating concrete placement booms and pumps
- Inspection and maintenance procedures for concrete pumping equipment
- Familiarity with manufacturer's operation and service manuals
- Proper use, care, and storage of personal protective equipment
- Proper use, care, and storage of tools and equipment, including electrical safety practices
- Procedures to follow in case of accidents or injuries
Supervision Responsibilities: Supervisors play a crucial role by ensuring that only trained workers are authorized for the assigned tasks. They monitor work activities to ensure adherence to safe practices, including the use of protective systems and personal protective equipment.
